From the early 1980’s Anavar (oxandrolone) has been one of the most popular anabolic steroids on earth. Now, I know this steroid has not seen much use in the US for at least 20 years, having taken something of a backseat to its more popular cousin Winstrol (Stanozolol), but it is still prescribed (though usually under another name) throughout the world and has always held at least some degree of popularity among bodybuilders.
Anavar remains extremely popular with female bodybuilders due to its mild side effect profile when compared to its contemporaries. As such, Anavar is still easily found through any number of underground labs or black market suppliers. A cursory search on google will yield dozens of suppliers for this anabolic steroid. Most are obviously scams, but some are quite legitimate and provide the compound in tablet form as well as liquid suspension.
Anavar has been one of my favorite anabolic steroids since I first used it back in college at age 19, mostly due to its very manageable side effect profile compared to other orals. It also remains extraordinarily cheap through black market channels where it is easily had for anywhere from $2-5/tab if you know where to look. The liquid suspension is even cheaper per milligram of active agent, though it does require a somewhat larger amount and thus often comes with 5mL bottles instead of 10mL like the tablets. Anavar remains one of the only orals I can stomach due to its extremely low liver toxicity, though it is quite likely that liver damage will result from long term use regardless.
Beyond concerns over general health and safety (if you aren’t a doctor you probably shouldn’t be playing with anabolic steroids), questions regarding Anavar’s use in performance enhancement are as follows:
Question 1: Does Anavar work?
Answer: Yes. Like most oral anabolic steroids it won’t do much if anything on its own, but when combined with a non-oral agent such as Trenbolone or Winstrol it confers a distinct advantage both in terms of strength and lean muscle mass.
Question 2: How much weight can it help me gain?
Answer: Anavar is generally considered weaker than Dianabol, but this has been shown to be a persistent and widespread misperception for at least the past 10 years. Like all orals it varies from person to person and will depend largely on the dosage used, but while some studies have found that Anavar provides about half the gains of oral Dianabol in humans, others have found absolutely no difference between them for gaining lean muscle mass.
Question 3: Who needs it?
I’m not going to get into specific protocols here because I don’t feel that’s important enough to give blanket advice upon with regard to anabolic steroid supplementation. However, if one is looking for a mild compound to use as an adjunct to certain other steroids, this would certainly be among the best choices .
Question 4: What kind of gains can I expect?
See Question 2. While Anavar will assuredly produce less overall gain than Dianabol or testosterone, it will not provide significantly less versus these two drugs–it’s just much milder than they are so the total dose required to achieve the same effect is substantially lower. Thus, you might find yourself taking 100mg/day Anavar with 500mg/week Nandrolone instead of 500mg/week Deca (Nandrolone) and 500mg+ per day Dianabol.
Question 5: What sort of side effects can I expect?
Anavar is one of the milder steroids out there, probably second only to Primobolan . It does not aromatize and thus has no risk of gynecomastia. In fact, it actually works as a SERM in some tissues and inhibits estrogen from binding where it shouldn’t. Thus, Anavar is often used by bodybuilders concurrently with Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) to prevent/ameliorate estrogenic side effects such as water retention and gyno. This same property also prevents Anavar from negatively affecting lip like other orals can do.
That being said, Anavar is well known for its unique side effect of greatly increasing appetite once it starts working. Some have compared this to GH use in that you’ll feel the need to eat mass quantities at every meal–the difference being that Anavar does not seem to do much if anything in terms of actual growth. If you are bulking I cannot recommend running this compound since it will make your life a living hell due to hunger pangs and constant trips to Taco Bell.
Beyond those two fairly predictable effects, Anavar appears also to lower HDL slightly, but not LDL . It’s neither good nor bad on cardiovascular health, but I figure it bears mentioning nonetheless.
If you run it in a cutting cycle, be warned that this may not bode well for your blood pressure.
Question 6: How long will I have to wait until I see results?
Answer: Anavar will start working within 24-48 hours of ingestion and exert its full effect over the course of 4 weeks or so. Thus, while some anabolic steroids will take 4-6 weeks before you know whether or not they’re going to actually do anything for you, Anavar is very quick about showing an effect.
Question 7: What kind of gains can I expect from stacking?
This largely depends on what other drugs are used with it; however, assuming one is using testosterone as a base, stacking Anavar with Deca or Equipoise (boldenone) might produce gains similar to those you’d see from using Dianabol and testosterone. The beauty of stacking it with these two drugs is that proper dosing can allow for a smooth transition from Testosterone based gains to more steroid-like gains as the steroids begin exerting their full effect.
As a mild anabolic, Anavar will stack well with almost anything and provide good results for most users who don’t plan on going overboard in terms of dosage. In fact, its very nature as a mild compound makes it an easy choice for both experienced steroid users looking to maximize benefits from their cycles while minimizing side effects as well as novices looking to experiment with hard drugs for the first time. If you are thinking of trying out heavier compounds, stacking them with Anavar is a great way to reduce side effects and still come away with decent gains.
Question 8: What’s the best way to take Anavar?
Answer: When properly dosed (20-30mg/day) you can take it with or without food; however, most anabolic steroid users seem to prefer taking it with meals since it reduces GI distress due to poor absorption in the intestines as well as providing substrates necessary for good health–namely fats and carbs. One or two pills (40-50mg) per day is usually sufficient for this purpose. Many simply swallow them and wash it down with a few sips of water, but some prefer to break the pills in half and chase it with orange juice to reduce the taste.
Question 9: What kind of results can I expect from Anavar?
Answer: In high enough doses (80-100mg+/day), probably comparable to those you’d get from using steroids such as Dianabol or Testosterone . However, for most users a dose of 20-30mg/day is sufficient for noticeable gains within 4 weeks time. Yes, I know that’s not much, but bear in mind that this drug is NOT a mass builder by any means–it will mainly provide quality lean mass that will look good on you without making you look like a bloated mess.
Question 10: What are some common side effects of Anavar?
Answer: The most commonly reported side effect is increased blood pressure due to estrogen conversion, so women should be careful with this compound as it seems to have this tendency. They also report headaches, but they don’t seem nearly as severe as the “roids gave me brain damage” kind I’ve seen reported by people who’d never touched steroids before taking handfuls of painkillers. It’s not that extreme, but if you’re predisposed to migraines or are particularly sensitive to headaches then you might want to avoid Anavar for this reason.
Other than that, Anavar has few side effects when properly dosed. The only thing I’ve ever seen mentioned is a very light acne breakouts, but I think this was probably attributed to the high protein diet that most anabolic steroid users are on in conjunction with this drug–more protein consumption can lead to more acne. It’s not the inability to metabolize it doesn’t cause inability to metabolize water; rather, it decreases ability of body cells called eosinophils to produce and release histamine thus reducing inflammation in response to allergens or other stimuli. Non-allergic people have normal numbers of eosinophils which do not increase when they are exposed to allergens.
Anavar, like other anabolic steroids can increase blood pressure in some people and it is advisable for users to monitor their blood pressure on a regular basis. There are also possible side effects which include headaches, back pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea when using Anavar. Some of the most serious adverse reactions that were experienced by individuals taking this drug included chest pains, shortness of breath or swelling of the limbs. Individuals with heart or kidney problems should not take this drug without first consulting with a physician. When it comes to cycling off Anavar , indications suggest that one may experience depression when they stop taking this medication although there is no evidence indicating why is so. Nevertheless, the individual should seek the advice of a medical professional if they are experiencing depressive symptoms.
Anavar Usage Tips
Currently, Anavar is one of the most popular oral steroids on the market today for cutting cycles. This is because it’s great at decreasing body-fat while protecting lean mass. This is very useful for those who are trying to get rid of that last little bit of fat around their abs before hitting the stage or going on vacation–you can take this drug along with your diet and watch your body fat plummet to levels you never thought possible without losing any muscle tissue. This makes it perfect not only for competitive athletes but also fitness buffs looking to impress others with an impressive six pack whenever they hit the beach in their board shorts. Additionally, the lack of estrogen conversion makes it perfect for male athletes who are trying to avoid developing female breast tissue or enlarged nipples, which is a common concern among male bodybuilders. One of the most popular uses for this drug is with bulking compounds . Anavar stacks up very well with Dianabol , Deca Durabolin and Equipoise , giving you great results without excess water retention.
For females, 10-15mg/day will be more than enough to supply desired effects–this is assuming that they have been cycling several weeks prior to beginning the Anavar portion of their cycle. A girl can stay at this dose for 4-6 weeks before cycling off to avoid the stress this drug can put on the liver. Guys should start at 20mg/day and adjust downward as needed, with 30-40mg/day being a good place to start for experienced users. I would not go over 40mg/day unless you are running it with other drugs that complement its function in your steroid cycle .
For male athletes using Anavar , 10-30 mgs per day is normally plenty. When used for cutting, one dose taken prior to working out is more than enough. As mentioned earlier, cycling off of this drug before beginning another round is recommended after about 4 weeks so as to avoid stressing the liver too much. Some people may have problems with the aforementioned side effects, but it is more than possible to regulate them by adjusting dosage and cycle length. After all, Anavar is a mild steroid so there’s no reason a guy can’t stay on it for several weeks or months at a time if he so chooses.
